Jim Koehler focuses his practice on securities litigation and broker-dealer representation. He has litigation experience in trial and appellate courts across the U.S and has handled court cases involving federal securities laws, attorney and accountant malpractice, the U.C.C., contracts, finance, lender liability, international banking, RICO, corporate law, partnership law, employee relations, real estate and estates and trusts. He has argued several cases before the Ohio Supreme Court.
Jim has represented broker-dealers in dozens of FINRA arbitrations throughout the U.S. in matters involving customer claims of fraud, unsuitability, selling-away, breach of fiduciary duty, and violations of federal securities and state blue sky laws.
In 2015, Jim launched aequum, a tech-driven product for the defense of medical bills and the recovery of overpayments. This practice has rapidly grown to become a national practice with claims having been defended in all 50 states and led to the formation of aequum LLC in 2020.
Jim’s transactional experience includes serving as counsel for diversified corporate clients, including Reg. D issuers, limited partnerships in tax shelter areas, and clients in China and Israel. He has handled mergers and acquisitions and prepared 1934 Act Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
